Alexa Villa is a Mexican American singer, songwriter and producer known for her alternative-rock and vibrant synth pop songs has just released her highly anticipated music video for her single "My Kind of Damaged".
At the beginning of the music video you are met with the melodies of Alexas' piano that is playing in the background at a party. Alexa then slowly walks around the room and you can see that she is trying to find people that she thinks would be like her and have a similar mindset to her. The tone of Alexa's piano slightly changes and it cuts to Alexa pouring her heart out whilst she is playing the Piano. The multi-instrumental artist was classically trained to play the piano from the age of seven and it is definitely powerful to see her playing the piano during the music video.
Alexa likes to discuss topics that some people might be afraid to speak about. In the song she talks about how she didn't learn how to feel and she talks about how she feels like she might not be good enough.
Alexa has previously stated that she wasn't like other kids when she was growing up because instead of playing with barbies when she was younger she was learning how to play the piano and how to write songs. She knew from a young age that she wanted to become a musician. Alexa's lyrics aren't just relatable but they are also empowering, The lyric "Are you my kind of damaged, or are your my kind of broken" shows that she is able to express her emotions through her music to help other people feel like they're not the only ones experiencing the same kind of emotions.
During the music video it cuts to a scene where Alexa is laying down next to some mirrors whilst she is singing about how she is feeling about herself and how she feels about facing her fears after what seems like a lifetime of running from them It’ feels like it is a stop along the way to discovering that maybe she is enough.
A lyric that also stood out to me was "Tell me your my kind". Because it's something that we all think about when we're interacting with people and how hard it is to open up and be vulnerable around people that we don't really know. Seeing Alexa express her emotions through the choreography of the music video was really empowering as it shows the struggles that she has had to face whilst trying to figure out who she is and who she can trust. I feel like the party scenes are just as Important as the scenes where she is alone as it shows that she is trying to find people that are like minded and it shows that she is trying to find people that feel the same way that she does so that she knows that she is not alone.
Alexa has a unique ability to create powerful songs that a lot of people can resonate with and she is definitely the future of Alternative-Rock. Her aim is to empower and inspire other people to be their true selves and her songs are incredibly catchy. She is definitely an artist to watch. A lot of Alexa's music is inspired by artists like Gwen Stefani, Yungblud Led Zepplin, Halsey, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Miley Cyrus, Garbage and Alanis Morissette.
If you would like to see Alexa Villa perform live she is currently on tour with Kelsy Karter & The Heroines and Emi Jeen on their North American Tour.
